Students begin talking about college in their first months of high school at STB, and those conversations persist throughout all four years.
As a college-preparatory school, St. Bernard's boasts a high college matriculation rate (97%) and an even higher college acceptance rate (100%). Our goal, though, isn't as simple as getting our students into college: it's making their dream college affordable and supporting their long-term career goals, whether those goals involve higher education or not.
To help our students accomplish their goals, we approach college preparation and college counseling as a holistic process. While College Counselor, Mrs. Heather Weibel Tullio ('88), leads the charge, it takes a team of mentors to truly foster each student's potential. As such, the guidance office includes the Assistant College Counselor, the Dean of Students, and the Adjustment Counseling team.
Here are some school-wide student-support initiatives we adopt as a Bernardian community to help foster students' growth as they prepare for college.

OUR ACADEMIC SUPPORT TEAM
Supporting students on the road to graduation and college takes teamwork! In addition to College Counselor, Ms. Heather Tullio, and Assistant College Counselor, Ms. Candice Clark, here are the other people that make up our student success team and help our students to succeed both in and outside of the classroom:
DEAN OF STUDENTS:
As Dean of Students, Tyler McCann collaborates with the Principal, Adjustment Counselor, and teachers to address student behavior, provide academic and behavioral supports for students, and oversee discipline and attendance in accordance with school policies. Mr. McCann believes that the culture of St. Bernard’s is one that values responsibility, integrity, and respect, and seeks to model that for each student within our community. Through building relationships, creating a space for clear and open communication, and a personalized approach to discipline, Mr. McCann ensures that the community is safe for all, and a place where high character standards are not just valued but lived out daily.
ADJUSTMENT COUNSELOR:
The Adjustment Counselor, Kelly Long, provides educational, clinical, and therapeutic services through both individual and group counseling. Ms. Long collaborates with administrators, teachers, and parents to best support each and every student at St. Bernard's. Ms. Long provides techniques and strategies to help students deal and cope with stress, anxiety, learning barriers, etc. As a team, the guidance department works together to best support each student and family.

“College Affordable introduced my daughter to the college where she ultimately decided to enroll. She received a presidential scholarship ($100,000) to Le Moyne College through the special junior scholarship program that College Affordable has initiated at St Bernard’s. We had never even heard of the college until she received the award. It is not hyperbole to say that College Affordable found my daughter’s college of choice. I would encourage every parent to take advantage of this remarkable free program at St Bernard’s.” - Senior Parent
